James Barker Band

As winners of the 2015 Boots and Hearts Emerging Artist Showcase, they were awarded a release with Universal Music Canada and an all-inclusive trip to Nashville, Tennessee. The band was also given the opportunity to open for Thomas Rhett on the Boots and Hearts main stage in front of 40,000 of country music’s biggest fans and returned to play the mainstage at the festival in 2016.

Playing a spunky and engaging variety of contemporary country with pop and rock accents, the James Barker Band enjoyed a speedy rise to popularity in their native Canada before making a strong impression in the United States. The James Barker Band were formed in 2013 in Lindsay, Ontario by James Barker (lead vocals and guitar) and Connor Stephen (drums), who first met while they attended band camp together when they were kids. The two played in bands together through high school, and while doing some recording at a local studio in 2011, they met guitarist Taylor Abram. Abram hit it off with Barker and Stephen, and he was soon making music with them. The final piece of the puzzle came in 2013, when bassist Bobby Martin, who had worked with Barker in the past, joined the lineup. Shortly afterward, the James Barker Band won the Nashville Star talent competition at Kempenfest in Barrie, Ontario, and the group was on its way.

Do Good Badlies

Bio: It is something that has been in the works a long time, but something completely new. Brothers Daniel and Jon Greer had been traveling and playing for years, but the new line-up featuring vocalist Cassie Noble changed everything. She can be beautifully smooth but at times have a Janis Joplin style rasp. Her vocals and acoustic guitar playing are the perfect contrast to the gritty rock and roll style the boys brought to the table. The sound is filled out with drummer Jamie Robinson in control of the rhythm.

Upon creating this new project the group launched a cross-Canada online contest to find a more fitting name. Shortly after they released “Electric Nights”, the bands debut album as “The Do Good Badlies”. The band is based in Lindsay, Ontario with a strong connection to the thriving Toronto music scene.

The Kents

The Kents are an emerging force on the Canadian musical landscape that call on anthemic intimacy.  Hailing from Lindsay, Ontario, the four-piece indie rock band explore many of the existential crises one experiences when they’re young on their sophomore EP Within Waves.

Says lead singer Warren Frank of the new release, “it’s like those classic coming-of-age Breakfast Club-type films.” Awkwardly dissolving romances, the impact of family, and tests of personal faith are just some of the topics tackled on the Within Waves’ five songs.

It’s thoughtful, meaningful music from a band whose songs fit comfortably on a playlist next to the likes of Foals, My Morning Jacket and Broken Social Scene, and who could share a stage with those acts just as easily.

In 2016, The Kents independently released their debut WAKING EP, which encapsulates lyrical explorations of family, loss and separation from the comfort of adolescence with a hook-hungry, pop filter that controls the chaos. They have been featured on the Apple Music’s 2016 Rising Stars, Spotify’s Best of 2016 Viral Hits, Hockey Night in CanadaCanada’s Walk Of Fame Emerging Artist and earned radio support from CBC including George Stroumboulopoulos and various other regional and national platforms. They’ve shared the stage for sold-out shows with The Sheepdogs, The Trews, The Strumbellas, The Elwins, The Fast Romantics and Hollerado. With new music to unveil to the world, the band hits the road with a renewed sense of purpose. Within Waves was released on October 13, 2017.
